FAQs

  • Yes we do! We have options for in person, online, and hybrid.

  • Yes we do! As long as you let us know 24 hrs in advanced on your student portal, you will be given a makeup credit. You can use that credit to schedule a makeup lesson with any of our instructors.

  • Yes. Music is something you’ll be able to do for the rest of your life. We want you to be set up with the best option for practicing at home.

We strive to set up our students for success and that includes helping set them up with the best instrument for their budget. We have instruments for sale and for rent, and we are happy to work out payment plans with our students.

If you need help finding an instrument just let us know!

  • No worries, just let us know and we are happy to find a new day/time for your lessons that works with your schedule.

  • Our lessons are just month to month, no minimum monthly commitment, however we recommend taking lessons for at least a few months in order to see improvement. If at any time you would like to take a break from lessons, 2 weeks notice is required so we can cancel the automatic billing.

If you feel like music isn’t for you, we recommend to at least stick with it long enough to experience a victory or performance! Learning an instrument can be tough, but that’s also what makes it so rewarding! You learn some pretty important life skills from music.

  • There is not a magic number for this, it really depends on the student.

Remember that practice does not make perfect. I always say “practice makes permanent.”

We work our hardest to set our students and their families up for practicing success, that’s why our instructors incorporate fun songs, we hold practice challenges (like bingo, olympics, and more), we award student of the month trophies to students for going above and beyond each month, and we have an ongoing student store where students can earn money for practicing and can use it to buy awesome prizes!

I don’t like the idea of a parent setting a timer and making their child sit there until the timer runs out (I’m sure no one likes that idea!). We just say that students should practice until they accomplish something, some days that might take 10 minutes, some days that might take 2 hrs. It’s important to stay positive, and to make goals achievable!

We love this TED ED video on how to practice effectively

  • YES!!! That’s something that really sets Snake River Strings Co. apart. We have 3 major recitals a year.

In the spring we have a festival competition where students perform for a 3rd party judge. We award trophies, and every student leaves with a judges comment sheet.

In the summer we have a laid back open mic in the park. Everyone brings their lawn chairs and enjoys an evening of music, where students can show off what they have been working on over the summer.

In the fall we have a large combined themed recital with group numbers, solos, instructors songs, lights, fog machines, sound, photographers, etc. Students dress up and we have an emcee, In the past our themes have been: 1920s jazz and swing, Hee Haw bluegrass, country, and corny jokes, and From Pop to Rock.

In addition to this, we offer jam sessions and optional smaller performances like at the fair, parades, and more.

  • We have 3 convenient locations in SE Idaho! Music lessons in Blackfoot, Idaho, Pocatello, ID, and Ammon, ID! If lessons are not online, then lessons will take place in our professional classrooms at your chosen location.

Our classrooms are fun and inspirational, plus its great to have a designated classroom so that students have access to all needed resources, and know it’t time to focus! (rather than in someone’s living room).

  • We encourage parents to attend the lesson when possible so that the instructor can educate the parents with at-home practice help and they can communicate goals and achievements. Especially with younger students!

Every student is different though, and this is something that will need to be discussed as lessons progress.

No matter what, an email with a copy of the lesson notes will be emailed to you at the end of every lesson.

  • Absolutely! Lessons are reoccurring. Large gaps in one’s training can be a huge step back for most students.

Playing an instrument incorporates a lot of muscle memory, just like walking or breathing. Imagine not walking for 3 months?! You would need a lot of physical therapy in order to get back in shape.

  • We are confident we have a teacher for every learning style. If you aren’t connecting with your teacher, just let us know and we can try out another teacher, no hurt feelings or strings attached! (haha get it?)
